What are the moderate to best fishing rod blanks for deep sea fishing?
I would go with either the Calstar or Seeker rod blanks. For the cost they are the best value and have the most complete line of actions and type of rods available, both graphite composite and fiberglass. The Calstar is a harder, stiffer action when compared to the Seeker, so look at both and choose your blank based on the feel of the rod and what your purpose is, and not the manufactuer.
Lamiglas is a good choice and has some great blanks that I like to fish, but they do not have a real complete line. I use them to fill in some gaps that is not offered by others.
I like the St. Croix rods and blanks but do not have a lot of experience with the heavier blanks that they offer, so I can't really comment on them. However they are very favorable on my list of rod blanks from what I have built, used personally, and sold in the lighter models. Worth looking at.
If you are wanting a custom rod I do not recommend the Loomis Pelagic. The blanks are over priced and you are better off buying a factory built, as Loomis does not cater to the custom rod market. I am not a fan of G Loomis products in general and believe that there are other rods and blanks on the market that are a better value and a superior product.
