Compound Knives

What can I use to clean & polish antique knife blades?

I have several antique pocket knives that belonged to my grandfather and father. Now I want to clean them and pass them on to my grandchildren. I have a buffing wheel with a Makita grinder, but what compound should I use?

Jeweler's rouge will brighten them. It is mildly abrassive. You could try Bartender's Friend or Bon Ami, also low abrassive.
