Depending on what pegs you have, some have a hole through them. If this is the case (and the pegs were installed properly), you need to remove the axle nut with the socket and extension, then put a rod or screwdriver through the hole and twist the peg loose.
When installing pegs, never just screw them onto the axle... remove the axle nut, install the peg, then reinstall the nut through the peg. If you don't do this you'll be treated to a bent or broken axle. This goes for threaded pegs as well.
