How do I fix my rocking chair?
I found a rocking chair. It's beautiful, and very solid, but is missing a seat and a back. I could use some ideas for refurbishing it. Caning and things like that are a bit beyond me. Has anyone got any great, funky ideas? Please help me make my rocking chair ROCK!!
The existing frame is a solid hard wood - not like pine. There are no grooves along the seat, so I assume it was a flat bit of wood w/ some cushioning. The baack is all open, except for 2 dowels, about 3" in on each side, running top-bottom. Maybe the back was woven? I hope that helps.
Please, what is MDF?

Here is my edit:
This chair is best taken to the sailmaker. Should be plenty around if you live near the coast. You can add cushions after they provide a very strong seat and back.
It calls for canvas, I think. Do not let anyone drill holes into the frame. The best solution makes use of what is already there without damaging or weakening it.
Some people weigh 300 lbs nowadays, too many of them. Make sure no one like that sits in this chair after it is restored
