In the manufacturing of computer chips, cylinders of silicon are cut into thin wafers that are 4.00 inches in diameter and have a mass of 1.60 of silicon. How thick () is each wafer if silicon has a density of 2.33 ? (The volume of a cylinder is .)
2.33g/cm .3

1.60 g x (1 cm³ / 2.33 g) x (1 in / 2.54 cm)³ = 0.041905 in³

that is the volume of the wafer... since volume of a cylinder = pi x r² x h

h = 0.041905 in³ / (pi x r²) = 0.041905 in³ / (3.1416 x (2.00in)²)
h = 0.003335 in

as usual, you gave my correct answer a thumbs down. Aren't you the one who ALWAYS complains about people giving your answers a thumbs down? Even if they are wrong? Haven't you stated over and over and over that you NEVER give correct answers a thumbs down? Are you a liar or a hyprocrite?. Or both?

what does (g / cm²) x (g / cm³) = ?
doesn't (g / cm²) x (g / cm³) = g² / cm^5

on the other hand

(g / cm²) / (g / cm³) = (g / cm²) x (cm³ / g) = cm ???

as to your self check.

cm³ / (g/cm³) = cm³ x (cm³ / g) = cm^6 / g ≠g

cm³ x (g / cm³) = g...

you have your / and x backwards. This is the reason that I and every other Chemistry professor, instructor, tutor, TA, mentor, etc all preach "dimensional analysis". If you were to use that method to solve this problem you would have observed the units NOT cancel.

so let me show you how to properly "check" your answer

your incorrect answer...
3.14 x (2.00 in)² x (0.0466 cm) x (2.54 cm / 1 in)² = 3.78 cm³
3.78 cm³ x (2.33 g / cm³) = 8.81 g ≠1.60 g

my correct answer....
3.14 x (2.00 in)² x (0.003335 in) x (2.54 cm / 1 in)³ = 0.686 cm³
0.686 cm³ x (2.33 g / cm³) = 1.60 g

stop being so stubborn and you may just learn something.
