How can I write the cubic and quartic functions based on two data elements?
I have one years data table listing, and the amount of recycled material in those years. How to write a function cubic and quartic based on two elements data? 1980 / 14.5 million tonnes in 1990 / 33.6 million tonnes in 1993 / 43.8 1.994 / 50.8 1995 / 54.9 1996 / 57.3 1997 / 59.4 1998 / 61.6 1999 / 63.9 2000 / 69.9 How can I write the cubic and quartic equations for this data set? I did not excel, and I do not have a graphing calculator. Maybe you could show me the equations of the first set of data?
Well, the first question to ask is "what best explains the curve of my data? . Your curve could not require third or fourth good order. That being said, you do not have two pieces Data ... you have ten pairs. These data were sufficient for a quadratic, cubic, or quartic in shape. There is also ample data to a spline piecewise. I would draw the first data on a chart and decide what kind of shape it resembles. If you have an idea that the increase is exponential or another form, try to adjust at first that (perform a transformation on the data and verify the linear regression after transformation). I am a little worried that people feel compelled to use a certain adjustment equation before they investigate the underlying nature of the data. If you do not have Excel or a graphing calculator, you are virtually no tools. At minimum, you need a system like MATLAB to crunch data and display. You need to perform operations on matrices to make a least squares whatever equation you select for your fit.
